Florida Fishing Report | April Best Bets

TROUT AND REDS ARE ABUNDANT

I tell you what, these rains don’t seem to be stopping but the trout and reds have really been turning it on the last couple of weeks.  Some of the colder nights earlier in the month didn’t help things any but, as the sun got higher in the sky during the day and things warmed up the fish seemed to bite better.

The waters out of the rivers are stained but it really hasn’t effected the fishing that much. One important thing to remember while running in the rivers with all the fresh water coming out of the woods is that debris such as logs, small trees and limbs can mess up a motor foot if you happen to hit the right one.  I’ve had several good reports from folks catching limits of trout and reds toward the Fenholloway River and Spring Warrior area the last couple of weeks.  They are fishing around the oyster bars and creek mouths using sinking and suspended plugs. We fished over towards Rock Island the second week of March and did real well on trout using sinking plugs, the reds for some reason didn’t want to cooperate that day.  I’ve also had a couple of reports of folks catching reds back towards the Aucilla River but I haven’t ventured over that way yet. With the water temperatures rising it won’t be long until the trout start to head out onto the flats. Also along with the temperatures rising comes the top water bait bite.

As water temperatures rise the trout and reds will begin to get a little more aggressive and start to hit the top water plugs. With the good Lords Blessing the rains and winds will soon cease and we can get down to some great fishing. Best bets for April will be to continue to fish the creeks with live shrimp for the red fish, also fish around the points and bars using the sinking and suspended plugs. I wouldn’t forget to start trying a little top water action towards the end of the month of April in close for reds and trout. Don’t forget to drop me a line, book a trip, or just visit us on our web site at www.bullredcharters.com. Well I guess that about does it for now, don’t forget to include the family and children in those outdoor activities and boat safe.

Happy Fishing,

Capt. Bry Martin
